His expertise lies in hardware/product & startups and bringing products to market. He has been working in the industry for more than 16 years as an electronics/hardware design engineer. He has successfully delivered a variety of industrial products to the market, including edge AI/ML industrial controllers, gas leak detection, IoT sensors for pump jacks, smart energy meters, lte-m tracking devices, and wireless modems.

He has managed overseas manufacturing contractors and worked closely with regulatory bodies (CSA/IEC).
Waseem holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from KFUPM.

Ahmed is a Research Translation specialist within the RPP office, supporting Research Translation activities with a focus on

He worked for Schneider Electric in Leeds, UK, supporting the quality assurance team by assisting with technical investigations of design/

component-related problems identified during assembly through the application of quality assurance methodologies; 8D, Poka Yoke, 6Sigma, etc.

He supported the engineering change process as plant change owner through deliverables that meet Schneider electric’s product evolution process.

He was responsible for the application of multiple technologies to provide technical solutions to resolve simple to complex electromechanical-related issues.
Ahmed earned his M.S. in Engineering Product Design from Bournemouth University, UK, in 2008.

Guangyu Liu Ph.D.

Dr. Guangyu Liu supports Research Translation activities with a focus on:

Guangyu earned her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University, USA, in 2013.

She was a Process Development Engineer at Intel fab, Portland, USA, for three years, where She oversaw the integrated process for computer chip manufacturing for yield improvement.

Guangyu joined the Photonics Lab at KAUST as a Research Scientist for three years. She is currently an IEEE senior member with over ten years of academic and industrial experience in optoelectronic and microelectronic device fabrication.

Sabooh Ajaz Ph.D.

He brings the following experience to our team:

He received his Ph.D. from Information and Communication Engineering Inha University, Incheon, South Korea.

He has 10+ years of embedded systems engineering experience. He spent more than five years in the industry and successfully completed complex projects related to IOT and space/defense sector. Experienced in the implementation of complex software, electronics, and communication systems.

He did Architecture and code development using C/C++, Matlab, and HDL. ASIC implementation using Synopsys. FPGA implementation (Xilinx). He also worked on different controllers like PIC24, AVR, MCS-51, etc.

Farouq has over nine years of experience in programming, software, and web development, which can only be enabled using efficient database systems using various technologies.
He obtained his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Birmingham and his M.S. from the Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), UK.

AbdulRahman is a Chartered (MIMechE) Engineer in the R&D space leading projects ranging from Industrial Manufacturing to digital solutions for supply chain challenges.

He holds a doctorate in manufacturing engineering from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, as well as being certified as a Project Manager through the APM. 

He worked as Technical Program Manager at the National Composites Centre, R&D Principal Development Engineer in Spirit AeroSystems, and Lead Manufacturing Research Engineer (DFMA) at Airbus, UK.






Amin Lekhraj

Lekhraj holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Heriot-Watt University in the UK. His experience has been heavily focused on the refining/oil & gas industry, working on various R&D programs. 

Before joining KAUST, he worked in the industry for 15+ years with companies like Aramco and University spin-outs for GTL and plastic waste chemical recycling. 

He has recently worked with Recycling Technologies in the UK as a Principal R&D Engineer for a pyrolysis process technology. Lekhraj has spent most of his career working in R&D within the industry, working heavily with research centers, grant bodies, and universities for technology development and process intensification.
